A Cup of Cheer: Our Recipe for Mexican Holiday Coffee

When you’ve had enough eggnog but crave something festive, try this recipe for Mexican holiday coffee. A spin on the traditional Irish coffee, this one is a crowd favorite at King Bean. We like the addition of in-season orange zest and a dusting of cocoa powder as a garnish. The softly whipped cream gives this drink an impressive edge to wow your friends and family.

Mexican Coffee

 1 oz good quality tequila

1 / 2 oz. Kahlua coffee liqueur

1 cup strong brewed hot coffee, we recommend Twenty Strong

Heavy whipping cream

Orange zest (optional)

Cocoa powder (optional)

First, make your own fresh whipped cream. Shake heavy whipping cream in a clean Mason jar until it is softly whipped put still pourable. Add tequila and Kahlua to your mug. Pour in the hot coffee, leaving room for cream. Gently pour softly whipped cream over the back of a warm spoon held just above coffee so that it layers on top. Garnish with fresh orange zest and a dusting of cocoa powder.

Serve hot and enjoy!

This drink is perfect for sipping on Christmas morning in your PJs. Or, create as a holiday after-dinner drink. You can always substitute Twenty Strong for Silent Night decaf for those that don't need the caffeine at nighttime.
